What To Avoid In Your Redesign: Think About Traffic Analytics

You’ve torn your website down to the studs and rebuilt it with a strong foundation, easy layout, and pleasing aesthetics. You’ve looked over your checklist not once, not twice, but more times than you care to count and have decided it’s okay to launch the site. We have one more question for you. Did you remember to think about analytics?

You have a beautiful new design, but how are you going to track your resigned website against your old website if you don’t have any kind of analytics software installed? The answer is pretty simple: you can’t. And this is a mistake you want to avoid.

Once you have launched your site, you should monitor and start collecting data. Did your newly written content and keyword research pay off? Are your pages easier to navigate? Are your URLs taking visitors to the correct pages? Unfortunately, you’ll never know the answers to these questions if you don’t have tracking software coded into your website. You want answers to these  questions in order to tweak any problems that may arise.

If you’ve had a design firm redesign your site, this should definitely be on their list of items to complete. Websites built on our Live Imagination platform include "Metrics" which will allow you to track visitor activity, page views, keywords, and referring websites. Otherwise, you can take a look at Google Analytics. With analytic tools, you can track who has visited your site, what keywords they used, find out which search engines have referred visitors to your site, and so on. This information will be very helpful to build site traffic and improve conversions.
